Those sentenced to death by stoning frequently wait years to learn when they will be executed, with the majority learning until executioners arrive at their cell door.

According to materials received by The Sun from the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), several of those currently sentenced to death are just in their twenties.

“The Iranian regime’s cruel practice of stoning is established in the mullahs’ medieval penal code, which also enables amputation of limbs and eye-gouging,” Hossein Abedini, deputy director of the NCRI’s UK representative office, told the newspaper.

“The dictatorship of the mullahs is rotten to the core.” Acts of repression like these are a futile attempt to restrain a restless society on the point of exploding.

“The victims live in continual anxiety of the day when the jail guards will unlock their cell door and summon them to serve their punishment.”

According to the Death Penalty Information Centre, Iran has the highest rate of executions per capita in the world.
