EFCC arraigns Okorocha in Abuja court over alleged N2.9bn fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Rochas Okorocha, former Imo State governor, and a presidential aspirant in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), before a Federal high court in Abuja.
Okorocha, who currently represents Imo West senatorial district in the National Assembly, was arraigned before Justice Inyang Ekwo on Monday, May 30, in the nation’s capital.
He is being tried on a 17-count charge lodged against him by the anti-graft agency, which is worth N2.9 billion.
It was earlier reported that the Federal supreme court refused to grant him bail on Friday.
Instead, Justice Ekwo directed Okorocha to notify the anti-graft agency through his lawyer, Ola Olanipekun, SAN, .
Olanipekun had asked the court in an ex-parte motion dated FHC/ABJ/CR/28/2022 to grant Okorocha liberal bail pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice filed on May 25.
On May 26, an ex-parte motion was filed, according to reports.
However, Justice Ekwo ruled that, because the case would be heard today, Monday, May 30, an order for the lawmaker’s release on bail would be unnecessary.
The senior lawyer reportedly hinted that he had filed a motion on notice to have his client released on bail.
