US police confirms five dead including gunman at Tulsa medical center mass shooting
US police has confirmed 5 individuals were killed in a mass shooting at a medical institution in Tulsa, Oklahoma, including the gunman on Wednesday, June 1.
According to authorities, a man armed with a rifle and a handgun killed four people inside the St Francis Hospital complex on Wednesday before turning the gun on himself.
They are, however, looking into the possibilities of planting a device near the shooting site.
“We’re on the scene at 3325 Park Place North in connection with a potential bomb inside,” Muskogee police spokesperson Lynn Hamlin told the Independent.
“At this time, we’ve evacuated the residence and advised everyone in the neighbourhood to remain indoors.”
Oklahoma Governor, Kevin Stitt issued a statement on Twitter condemning the killings as a “senseless act of violence and bigotry.”
“I have given Mayor GT Bynum any state resources that he may require, and I urge all Oklahomans to rally behind the Saint Francis health system community,” Mr Stitt added.
A day after bullets erupted at a New Orleans high school graduation and a week after a shooter opened fire at a primary school, killing 19 children and two teachers, the incident occurred.
Outside the hospital complex, dozens of police cars could be seen, and traffic was blocked down while the investigation was underway.
A reunification center was set up at a local high school to help families locate their loved ones.
A representative for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives confirmed that agents from the agency were on the scene.
