Raphael George, the son of a PDP party leader and Vice chairman of Ward 11, Esan North East, Hon. George, was among those gruesomely killed by armed robbers in Uromi, Edo State.
Six persons including two policemen of the Nigerian Police force were confirmed dead in the coordinated robbery attack on commercial banks on Thursday, 24th February, 2022.
Comrade Stanley Oamen, Special Assistant to Governor Godwin Obaseki, paid a condolence visit to the bereaved father at the weekend.
Oamen stated that those who do evil will not go unpunished. He asked Uromi citizens to go about their normal businesses, be vigilant and to report strange activities on time to security agencies.
ACCORDING TO BACKGROUND CHECKS THAT WERE MADE:
Some gunmen attacked four banks in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North-East Local government area of Edo state Nigeria on Thursday 24th-February-2022.
Atleast seven (7) persons including two police officers were killed during the robbery attack, reports show how the armed robbers broke into the banks: Zenith, UBA and Union Banks.
In a video of the incident that trended on social media, they armed robbers were seen loading sacks containing the money stolen from the banks into the boots of their vehicles.
It was also reported that the armed robbers drove on both sides of the roads while loading their loots into the vehicles including a red coloured Toyota Corolla vehicle and SUV Lexus jeep.
One of the armed robbers was spotted shooting into the air while the others carried the sacks containing their loots out of the banks.
It was also gathered that the robbery attack lasted for over two hours. Source said the attacked at about 3:30 pm and left at about 6:00 pm on Friday 24th-February-2022.
