EFCC ARRAIGNS 19 YEAR OLD MAN FOR INTERNET FRAUD IN KWARA STATE, NIGERIAAND DISCOVERED N21 MILLION NAIRA IN HIS BANK ACCOUNT
The Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, has convicted and sentenced a 19-year-old undergraduate, Oyedotun Adebowale, to two years’ imprisonment for cyber fraud.
The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which prosecuted Adebowale for internet fraud, told the court that N21m was discovered in the bank account of the Kwara State Polytechnic undergraduate.
Adebowale was charged with one count before Justice Muhammed Sani of the Federal High Court in Ilorin, according to the EFCC.
The judge found him guilty of the crime and sentenced him to two years in prison and a N300,000 fine.
“Investigations had earlier revealed that Oyedotun had under his possession over N21m suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities and a Toyota Camry, which he purchased using his mother’s name,” the EFCC said.
Upon arraignment, he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sesan Ola, counsel for the EFCC, reviewed the facts of the case and presented the defendant’s extrajudicial statements, iPhone 12 Promax, the key and particulars of a Toyota Camry confiscated from him, and a N350,000 draft, all of which were admitted in evidence.
The lawyer urged the court to take judicial notice of the uncontested evidence as well as the legal provisions in order to find the defendant guilty as accused.
The prosecution had proven its case against the defendant, according to Justice Sani.
The judge ordered that all things recovered from the defendant be forfeited to the Federal Government after he sentenced him.
