Court picks date to deliberate on extradition of disgraced DCP Kyari to US
A Federal high court in Abuja has scheduled judgment for August 29 in the extradition proceedings involving the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari.
After the lawyers for both parties submitted their final submissions, Justice Inyang Ekwo declared the date on Friday, June 3, 2022.
Nureini Jimoh (SAN), Kyari’s lawyer, criticized the Attorney General of the Federation’s (AGF) extradition application and urged the court to dismiss it.
Lawyer to the AGF, Pius Akutah argued otherwise, insisting that the AGF has complied with all necessary requirements for an extradition process.
Akutah asked the court to grant the application, and instruct the AGF to hand over Kyari as requested by the United States (US).
The US had earlier requested the Nigerian authorities to surrender Kyari in view of his alleged link with international fraud suspect, Abbas Ramon (a.k.a Hushpuppi), according to reports.
